Fargo Public Library launches sensory storytime sessions for early childhood development

Fargo, North Dakota – Families in Fargo will have a new opportunity to enjoy storytime in a welcoming and supportive environment designed for young children of all abilities. The Fargo Public Library has announced a series of monthly sensory storytime sessions this spring, offering an inclusive experience tailored to children who benefit from a calm and flexible setting.

Inclusive Storytime Designed for Young Children

The first session will take place today, Feb. 26, beginning at 10 a.m. at the Dr. James Carlson Library, located at 2801 32nd Ave. S. The program is presented by Anne Carlson Early Intervention staff and is designed as a sensory-friendly event that supports early learning and participation for children with diverse needs.

Sensory storytime focuses on engaging children through stories, songs, and movement activities. The program uses visuals, repetition, and hands-on sensory elements to help children feel comfortable and connected during the session. Organizers emphasize that the environment is intentionally gentle and supportive.

Families attending can expect a calm, flexible space where children are free to move around, make noise, and participate in ways that feel natural to them. This approach helps reduce stress for both children and caregivers while encouraging exploration and interaction.

The program is appropriate for children ages 0–5 years old and their siblings. No registration is required, making it easy for families to attend.

Library staff say the sessions aim to foster inclusion, early literacy, and positive social experiences while supporting children who thrive in sensory-friendly environments.
