Fargo voters to decide mayoral race, city commission seats, and infrastructure tax question in upcoming election on June 9

Fargo, North Dakota – Fargo residents will soon head to the polls to take part in an election that will shape local leadership and determine the future of a key city funding measure.

The City of Fargo election will be held alongside North Dakota’s primary election on Tuesday, June 9. Voters will be asked to make decisions on several important local races and ballot issues, while also participating in school board, park board, and statewide contests.

Among the most closely watched races are those for mayor and two seats on the Fargo City Commission. Each of the commission positions carries a four-year term.

In addition, voters will decide whether to continue the city’s existing 1% Infrastructure Sales Tax, a measure that has been used to support infrastructure-related projects throughout Fargo.

Multiple Voting Options Available

Election officials are encouraging residents to participate by using whichever voting method is most convenient for them.

Early voting will be available through Saturday, June 6, allowing voters to cast ballots before Election Day.

Those who prefer voting on Election Day can do so on June 9 between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m.

Residents also have the option of voting by absentee ballot. Completed absentee ballots may be mailed to the Cass County Finance Office at P.O. Box 2806, Fargo, North Dakota 58108-2806. To be counted, ballots must arrive at the Finance Office by the close of polls on Election Day.

Voters may also submit absentee ballots using the secure drop box located outside the Cass County Courthouse at 211 Ninth Street South in Fargo. Ballots placed in the drop box must be submitted by 7 p.m. on June 9.

Eligibility Requirements For Fargo Voters

The Cass County Finance Office administers elections in Fargo and reminds residents that certain requirements must be met in order to vote in city elections.

To be eligible, individuals must have lived in Fargo for at least 30 days before the election. Voters must also be at least 18 years old, be residents of North Dakota, and be citizens of the United States.

Unlike many states, North Dakota does not require formal voter registration.

Instead, voters simply appear at a voting location and provide an accepted form of identification. Acceptable IDs include a North Dakota driver’s license, a state-issued non-driver identification card, identification issued by a tribal government, or a long-term care identification certificate.

Residents who wish to vote absentee can obtain applications from the Cass County Finance Office at the Cass County Courthouse. Applications are also available online through the Cass County election website and the North Dakota Secretary of State’s voter information portal.

With races for mayor, city commission seats, school board positions, park board offices, and a vote on the future of the city’s infrastructure sales tax all appearing on the ballot, election officials are encouraging Fargo residents to review their options and make plans to participate before the June 9 deadline.
