City of West Fargo announces temporary closure of 1st Street between 6th Avenue East and 7th Avenue East for utility work

West Fargo, North Dakota – Drivers and pedestrians should prepare for temporary travel changes as a section of 1st Street will close for several days to allow private utility work to take place.

According to officials, 1st Street between 6th Avenue East and 7th Avenue East will close beginning Monday, July 20. If weather conditions cooperate, the project is expected to be completed by Friday, July 24.

Detours and parking changes announced

During the closure, motorists and pedestrians will be directed to use Sukuts Street or 2nd Street East as alternate routes to travel around the construction area.

Officials also noted that no parking will be permitted on 1st Street while crews are completing the utility work.

Drivers are encouraged to expect slower traffic, especially during busy commuting hours, and should allow extra travel time by planning their routes in advance.

Transportation officials also reminded everyone to remain alert while traveling near the work zone and to follow the recommended safety practice.

“Always use the ‘S’ check when traveling in and around construction areas – check your speed, space and stress.”

Officials ask motorists and pedestrians to pay attention to traffic signs, respect the construction area, and use caution until the project is finished and the roadway fully reopens.
