West Fargo set to welcome new mayor and commissioners after official certification of June election results
West Fargo, North Dakota – The results of the June 9, 2026 election have now been officially certified, setting the stage for a transition in leadership within the City of West Fargo.
According to the Cass County Election Administrator, Eric Gjerdevig has been elected as the next Mayor of West Fargo. Voters also selected Patti Stedman and Tyler Erickson to serve as City Commissioners. In addition, Jim Martens was elected Municipal Judge for the City of West Fargo.
The newly elected officials will formally begin their service during a swearing-in ceremony scheduled for Wednesday, July 1. The event will take place at 5:30 p.m. inside the West Fargo City Commission Chambers.
Following the ceremony, residents will have an opportunity to see the new leadership team in action during the first regular City Commission meeting with the newly elected officials. That meeting is scheduled for Monday, July 6.
City plans farewell celebration for outgoing leaders
Before the swearing-in ceremony takes place, the City of West Fargo will host a special gathering to recognize outgoing elected officials who have completed their service to the community.
The public is invited to attend an Open House beginning at 4 p.m. on July 1. The event will honor Mayor Bernie Dardis, Commissioner Brad Olson, and Commissioner Roben Anderson, all of whom chose not to seek reelection this year.
Residents, business leaders, community stakeholders, and city staff will have an opportunity to meet with the outgoing officials and thank them for their years of public service. The city will provide cake and coffee during the event, creating an informal setting for conversation and reflection.
A formal program is scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m. Speakers will include Dardis, Olson, Anderson, City Administrator Dustin Scott, and other city leaders who will recognize the contributions made by the departing officials during their time in office.
The transition marks the end of significant periods of service for all three leaders.
Mayor Bernie Dardis served two terms as mayor from 2018 through 2026. During those eight years, he helped guide the city through continued growth and development. Commissioner Brad Olson also completed two terms, serving from 2018 to 2026. Commissioner Roben Anderson served one term from 2022 to 2026.
All three officials decided not to run for reelection in the 2026 election cycle, opening the door for a new generation of city leadership.
The certification of the election results officially confirms the choices made by voters and clears the way for the leadership transition. As West Fargo prepares for the swearing-in ceremony and the first commission meeting of the new administration, the city will also take time to recognize the service and dedication of those who have helped lead the community over the past several years.
The July 1 events will provide residents with an opportunity both to welcome newly elected leaders and to thank outgoing officials for their contributions to the city before a new chapter begins in West Fargo government.
