West Fargo announces temporary road closures and detours for utility work in early April

West Fargo, North Dakota – Drivers in West Fargo are being advised to prepare for short-term traffic changes as road closures are set to take place on two key streets for utility work at the start of April.
City officials announced that 9th Street NE, stretching from 12th Avenue N to 7th Avenue NE, will be closed to through traffic beginning Wednesday, April 1. The closure is needed to allow crews to complete private utility work in the area. While the road will not be fully accessible to through traffic, local access will still be permitted during the work period.
Detours and shifting closures planned
To manage traffic flow, detours will be clearly marked. Northbound drivers will be redirected to 12th Avenue N using 7th Avenue NE and 45th Street NW. Meanwhile, southbound traffic will be routed to 7th Avenue NE via 12th Avenue N and 45th Street NW.
Once work on 9th Street NE is finished, the closure will move to 7th Avenue NE. At that stage, eastbound traffic will be detoured to 45th Street NW using 9th Street NE and 12th Avenue N. Westbound drivers will instead be directed to 9th Street NE through 45th Street NW and 12th Avenue N.
Officials noted that both closures will take place during daytime hours only, running from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day. Outside of those hours, roads are expected to reopen to normal traffic. The work is scheduled to wrap up by Friday, April 3, though weather conditions could affect that timeline.
Drivers urged to plan ahead
With these closures in place, motorists traveling through the area may experience delays, especially during peak travel times. Drivers are encouraged to plan ahead, allow extra time for their commute, and follow posted detour signs.
City officials also reminded drivers to stay alert when moving through construction zones and to prioritize safety at all times. They emphasized the importance of the “S” check when traveling in work areas, urging motorists to watch their speed, maintain proper space, and stay calm while navigating temporary changes.
As crews move forward with the utility work, these temporary disruptions are expected to help improve infrastructure in the area while keeping both workers and drivers safe.
