West Fargo announces details for Cleanup Week including curbside rules and restrictions

West Fargo, North Dakota – West Fargo residents are being reminded to prepare for the city’s annual Cleanup Week, a multi-day effort designed to help households clear out unwanted items and keep neighborhoods clean.

Cleanup Week is scheduled to run from Monday, May 4, through Thursday, May 7. The event will take place on each resident’s regularly scheduled garbage day during that week. City officials are asking residents to place items curbside after 4 p.m. on the day before their collection to ensure proper pickup.

What residents need to know before placing items curbside

During Cleanup Week, a wide range of household items will be accepted. Smaller items should be bagged and tied, and all containers used must be disposable. Larger items that cannot fit into standard bags will still be collected, making it easier for residents to get rid of bulky belongings.

In addition, renovation debris will be accepted curbside, but only during Cleanup Week. This provides a limited-time opportunity for residents to dispose of materials that are not usually collected with regular trash.

However, there are important restrictions. Certain items are not allowed to be placed curbside under any circumstances. These include hazardous materials such as televisions, paints, oils, and varnishes. Residents must take these items to the Household Hazardous Waste Facility located at 606 43 1/2 Street North in Fargo.

Organic materials are also not accepted. Grass clippings, compost, and similar yard waste must be taken to one of the designated yard waste disposal sites in West Fargo.

Additional disposal options available

For residents who need more flexibility, the Transfer Station at 1620 Main Avenue West will be open Monday through Saturday. During Cleanup Week, West Fargo residents can drop off extra garbage, recycling, yard waste, branches, and large items at no cost.

After Cleanup Week ends on May 7, disposal options will still be available, though some fees will apply. Appliances, tires, and other bulky items can continue to be dropped off at the Transfer Station, but residents should expect charges for those services. Year-round pickup for large items and appliances is also available by scheduling in advance.

City officials also noted that curbside brush collection will begin shortly after Cleanup Week, starting on Monday, May 11, giving residents another opportunity to manage yard debris.

Cleanup Week offers a valuable chance for residents to clear out clutter while following proper disposal guidelines. By preparing ahead and following the rules, residents can help ensure a smooth process for both crews and the community.
