North Dakota airports awarded 32 million dollars in federal funding for major infrastructure improvement projects

Bismarck, North Dakota – Airports across North Dakota are set to receive significant upgrades after the Federal Aviation Administration approved millions of dollars in federal funding for infrastructure improvements throughout the state.

Earlier this week, Senator John Hoeven announced that the FAA awarded $32 million through the Fiscal Year 2026 Airport Improvement Program to support 11 airport projects across North Dakota. The funding will be used to improve airport safety, modernize facilities, and strengthen transportation infrastructure serving communities throughout the state.

As a member of the Senate Transportation Appropriations Committee, Hoeven has worked to secure federal investments aimed at advancing airport development and improving transportation systems across North Dakota.

Funding will support improvements at 11 airports

The largest grant, totaling $8.8 million, will go to Bismarck Municipal Airport, where crews will rehabilitate the runway, taxiways, and lighting while also completing runway safety area improvements.

Dickinson Theodore Roosevelt Regional Airport will receive $8.6 million to construct a terminal apron, build new taxiways, and install taxiway lighting.

At Minot International Airport, $7.6 million has been awarded to rehabilitate the runway, reconstruct runway lighting and runway end identifier lights, and realign and extend a taxiway.

Hector International Airport in Fargo will receive $4 million to reconstruct its terminal apron.

Several smaller airports will also benefit from the federal funding.

Beach Municipal Airport will receive $950,000 to reconstruct runway lighting, taxiway lighting, airfield signage, the lighting vault, the precision approach path indicator system, and the rotating beacon.

Williston Basin International Airport has been awarded $519,840 to reseal pavement joints on the commercial apron, taxiways, and taxilane.

Mott Municipal Airport will receive $519,009 for resealing the runway, apron, taxiway, and taxilane pavement.

Glen Ullin Regional Airport has been awarded $375,000 to reseal its runway, apron, and taxilane surfaces.

At Garrison Municipal Airport, $310,000 will fund reconstruction of the airport terminal.

Hettinger J.B. Lindquist Regional Airport will receive $167,854 to complete design work for future taxiway lighting improvements.

Finally, Tioga Municipal Airport has been awarded $60,000 to design a taxiway extension and expand its holding bay.

Hoeven said the projects represent an important investment in the state’s transportation network.

“These investments in our airports are critical to improving safety, increasing efficiency and meeting the growing demand of communities across our state,” said Hoeven. “Reliable airport infrastructure is essential to keeping North Dakota connected, and these projects will help strengthen our transportation network for years to come.”

The Airport Improvement Program provides federal funding for projects that improve airport operations, safety, and capacity. Officials expect the latest investments to help modernize facilities across North Dakota while supporting reliable air travel for residents, businesses, and visitors for years to come.
