No injuries reported after firefighter respond to emergency in Fargo apartment building

Fargo, North Dakota – Fire crews in Fargo responded to a late-night emergency after alarms began sounding inside an apartment building, quickly escalating into a confirmed structure fire that required a fast and coordinated response to prevent further damage.
The Fargo Fire Department was dispatched on Tuesday, April 7, at approximately 9:20 p.m. to an apartment building located at 3160 33rd St S. The initial report indicated that alarms were going off, but while crews were still on the way, the situation intensified. Another caller reported an active fire inside a bedroom on the second floor, prompting the incident to be upgraded to a structure fire before firefighters even arrived.
When crews reached the scene, conditions changed rapidly. Within moments, a bedroom window failed, allowing flames to break outward and begin affecting the exterior of the building. Despite the sudden escalation, firefighters were able to act quickly, attacking the fire from both inside and outside. Their efforts brought the situation under control in a short period of time, limiting the spread and preventing what could have been a much more serious incident.
Residents evacuated safely as crews contain damage
At the time of the fire, the occupant of the affected apartment was inside but was able to safely evacuate before conditions worsened. Additional fire crews worked to ensure that all other residents in the building were also evacuated as a precaution. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, a result that officials say reflects both the quick response and the importance of functioning alarms.
While the fire itself was contained, it still caused notable damage. The apartment where the fire started sustained significant fire damage, while the unit directly below experienced water damage caused by firefighting efforts. Despite this, most of the building was able to return to normal relatively quickly. All but two apartments were cleared for reentry after crews removed smoke and ensured conditions were safe.
Property management was present at the scene, helping residents navigate the immediate aftermath. Cleanup and restoration crews also arrived soon after the fire was extinguished, beginning the process of repairing the affected units and restoring the building.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, and officials have not yet released an estimate of the total damage.
Fire officials used the incident as a reminder of how important it is to act quickly in an emergency. They stressed that anyone who discovers a fire should leave the building immediately and call 9-1-1 without delay.
They also shared key safety guidance for apartment residents:
- If safe, leave your apartment and close the door behind you.
- Pull the fire alarm on your way out to notify others in the building.
- Use the stairs to get out.
- Go to an outside meeting place to meet up with others.
