Fargo Public Library opens Northern Focus photography project for teens and adults across the region

Fargo, North Dakota – A creative opportunity is now open for photographers across the region as the Fargo Public Library begins accepting submissions for its annual Northern Focus photography project.
Now in its seventh year, the Northern Focus project invites both teens and adults, ages 13 and older, to take part in a showcase that highlights the unique character of the surrounding region. Submissions officially opened on April 1 and will continue through May 31, 2026. All entries must be submitted online through the library’s official submission form.
The project is open to both experienced photographers and those who simply enjoy capturing moments, offering a wide platform for creativity and expression.
Photography project highlights community and creativity
Participants are asked to submit photos that reflect the people, places, and experiences that shape life in the region. All images must be taken within North Dakota or Minnesota and should capture the spirit and diversity of the community.
Every submitted photo will be featured in a public exhibit at the downtown Main Library later in the fall. Beyond that, selected works will receive additional recognition. One photo will be chosen as the cover art for the library’s 2026 Northern Narratives publication, while 14 others will be included within the book itself.
There is no fee to enter the project, making it accessible to a wide range of participants. However, photographers must confirm that they are the original creators and copyright holders of the images they submit. They are also responsible for obtaining any necessary permissions from individuals featured in their photos.
The library has also set clear standards for acceptable content. All submissions must be appropriate for public display, and any material considered obscene, provocative, or otherwise unsuitable will not be accepted.
The project is supported by the Friends of the Fargo Public Library, helping ensure the continued growth and success of this creative initiative.
Residents interested in learning more about the project or submission guidelines can visit FargoND.gov or contact the library directly for assistance. With its focus on storytelling through images, Northern Focus continues to offer a meaningful way for the community to share its perspective and creativity.
