Fargo, North Dakota – Residents and visitors heading to downtown Fargo this weekend should prepare for traffic and parking changes as the city gets ready for the 2026 St. Patrick’s Day celebration. City officials say the adjustments are necessary to safely accommodate the annual parade and related events that will bring large crowds into the downtown area.
Parking restrictions will begin early in the morning on Saturday, March 14, with enforcement starting at 6 a.m. Authorities say drivers should pay close attention to posted signs along the parade route, as vehicles left in restricted areas will be removed.
Downtown Parking Restrictions and Road Closures
The City of Fargo has placed signs along several streets that are part of the official parade route. Parking will be prohibited in those areas to ensure the route is clear for participants, spectators, and event organizers.
The areas affected include NP Avenue from the Red River to Broadway, Broadway from NP Avenue to 4th Avenue North, and 4th Avenue North from Broadway to 2nd Street North.
Officials emphasized that no parking will be allowed along the parade route from 6 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 14. Any vehicles still parked in those areas after the 6 a.m. restriction begins will be towed at the owner’s expense.
In addition to the parking restrictions, road closures will also be implemented. Authorities said that street closures along the parade route prohibiting vehicle traffic will begin around 9 a.m., allowing organizers to safely prepare for the parade and the crowds expected to attend.
The celebration will begin even earlier with athletic events. This year’s festivities will include a 5K and 10K run that will take place before the parade. The race will follow portions of the parade route before crossing 2nd Street North and continuing onto the bike paths along the Red River.
City officials encourage those planning to attend the parade to take advantage of public parking options available in the downtown area. Several parking ramps and surface lots are available for visitors who plan ahead.
Officials also noted that parking in select locations is free after 5 p.m. on weekdays and on weekends, which may help visitors find convenient parking as they make their way downtown for the celebration.
With thousands of spectators expected for the parade and running events, city officials say planning ahead will help ensure a smooth and enjoyable St. Patrick’s Day celebration in downtown Fargo.
