City of Fargo Assessor’s Office preparing to mail property value notices to more than 35,000 property owners

Fargo, North Dakota – Property owners across Fargo will soon receive an important letter that gives them a closer look at how their properties are being valued. The City of Fargo Assessor’s Office announced that property value notices will soon be mailed to all property owners in Fargo, with some letters expected to begin arriving as early as Saturday, March 14.
Officials say the notices are part of a change brought about by a recent update to state law. In the past, not every property owner received a notice each year. Now, the process has changed in a way that affects the entire city.
New State Law Expands Property Value Notice Requirement
Because of the new law, the Assessor’s Office must now send a notice every year for every parcel in Fargo. This means more than 35,000 property owners across the city will receive a letter outlining their property’s proposed assessed value.
Previously, the city only mailed notices when a property’s assessed value increased significantly. Under the old rule, notices were sent only if a property’s value increased by at least 10 percent and $3,000. If a property’s value did not meet that threshold, owners often did not receive a letter.
The new requirement changes that approach. Every property owner will now receive a notice that lists the current proposed assessment and the previous year’s assessed value, giving residents the ability to compare changes and better understand how their property is being valued.
City officials say the expanded notification system helps improve transparency and gives residents more opportunities to review their property information.
The goal is to make sure property owners can easily review their assessments and raise questions if something does not appear correct.
Residents who have questions after receiving their notice are encouraged to reach out to the City Assessor’s Office. Property owners can call 701-241-1340 to speak directly with staff who can explain the assessment process or review specific details about their property.
In addition to calling the office, residents can also use online tools to review property information. The city provides an online platform where property owners can look up parcel details, including property characteristics and assessment information.
Officials say property owners can access those records by visiting FargoParcels.com, which allows residents to view detailed information about their property and compare assessment data.
City leaders say the new annual notice system is designed to keep property owners informed and give them the chance to better understand how local property assessments are determined each year.
