ND Sober Ride offers $10 ride vouchers to help prevent impaired driving across North Dakota

Fargo, North Dakota – North Dakota officials are expanding efforts to prevent impaired driving as the St. Patrick’s Day holiday approaches. The statewide ND Sober Ride program, part of the Vision Zero traffic safety initiative, is marking five years of service by offering additional discounted ride options to help residents get home safely.
The program, which aims to reduce alcohol and drug-related crashes on North Dakota roads, will provide special ride vouchers through two major ride-share platforms this year. For the first time, residents will be able to access $10 ride vouchers through both Lyft and Uber during the St. Patrick’s Day holiday period.
The vouchers will be available from March 13 through March 17, or until the available codes run out.
State officials say the expanded options are intended to make it easier for North Dakotans to plan safe transportation if they choose to drink or use substances that could impair their ability to drive.
“ND Sober Ride has helped thousands of North Dakotans get home safely over the past five years,” said NDDOT Highway Safety Division Director Karin Mongeon. “By expanding ride options, we’re making it easier for people to plan ahead and choose a sober ride.”
Program Encourages Planning Ahead
The Vision Zero campaign encourages residents to plan their rides before they begin drinking or using any substance that could affect their ability to drive safely. Officials advise people to download and save the voucher code in their preferred ride-share app ahead of time.
Residents can visit VisionZero.ND.gov to access QR codes that connect to the Uber voucher link and the Lyft ride code. Each voucher code is unique to a specific campaign and can only be used once per person.
Program leaders say the initiative has played a significant role in preventing impaired driving incidents since its launch five years ago. By providing discounted transportation options, the program helps reduce the chances that someone will attempt to drive after drinking.
The ride vouchers themselves have been made possible through support from AAA – The Auto Club Group. Since the beginning of the ND Sober Ride program, AAA has donated the discount codes used for these campaigns.
Officials say organizations and businesses interested in helping support the effort can contact the program for sponsorship opportunities.
ND Sober Ride remains a key part of North Dakota’s Vision Zero strategy, which focuses on eliminating traffic deaths and serious injuries across the state’s roadways. Through education, enforcement, and programs like discounted ride options, state leaders hope to encourage safer decisions behind the wheel.
