Cass County youth invited to explore hands on projects and activities during 4-H Kick-Off Event in October
West Fargo, North Dakota – Cass County is inviting young people, families, and other community members to learn more about the wide range of activities available through 4-H during a special event in West Fargo.
The Cass County 4-H Kick-Off Event will take place Sunday, Oct. 4, from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Agricultural Education Center at the Red River Valley Fairgrounds, located at 1805 Main Ave. W. in West Fargo.
The event is designed for both newcomers and families who already have experience with 4-H. Those who are considering joining will be able to learn how the program works, while returning participants can find information about upcoming activities and opportunities.
Visitors will have a chance to meet 4-H club leaders and NDSU Extension staff, explore different projects and learn more about future events. Families interested in becoming involved will also be able to sign up for 4-H during the event.
Wide range of activities available to youth
The Kick-Off Event will highlight the many hands-on learning opportunities that 4-H provides.
Young people interested in agriculture and animals will be able to explore programs related to those subjects. Other areas include arts and communication, clothing and textiles, food and nutrition, natural resources, citizenship and leadership.
Youth interested in science and modern technology can also learn about STEM and technology programs. Health and wellness opportunities will be among the other areas featured during the event.
Attendees can stop at 4-H project and information tables to learn more about individual programs and activities. Exhibits will also be available to explore inside the Agricultural Education Building.
Another feature planned for the afternoon is a special Milk Daisy the Cow experience.
Families looking for an additional activity can purchase tickets for tractor rides to Lost in the Valley, a popular attraction at the Red River Valley Fairgrounds.
NDSU Extension 4-H Agent Samantha Weidner said organizers are looking forward to introducing more families to what the program provides.
“We look forward to connecting with new families and sharing the many opportunities 4-H has to offer youth from both urban and rural communities,” said NDSU Extension 4-H Agent Samantha Weidner. “There truly is something for everyone in 4-H, and we’re excited to help them find the opportunities that are the right fit for each family!”
The event is open to anyone interested in discovering more about 4-H and the opportunities available for young people throughout Cass County. Participation is not limited to families already involved with the program.
Organizers hope the afternoon will give both urban and rural families a simple way to explore different interests, speak directly with people involved in 4-H and find activities that match what their children enjoy.
