Fargo, Moorhead, and West Fargo welcome new firefighter recruits for the 15th Metro Fire Academy class
Fargo, North Dakota – The Fargo, Moorhead, and West Fargo Fire Departments are preparing to welcome a new group of future firefighters as the 15th class of recruits begins training at the Metro Fire Academy on Monday, Aug. 3.
This year’s academy class includes six recruits, who will spend the next 18 weeks completing a rigorous training program designed to prepare them for the demands of emergency response and public safety.
The academy combines classroom learning with practical experience to help recruits develop the skills needed for a career in the fire service. Throughout the program, participants will take part in classroom instruction, ride-alongs, physical fitness conditioning, and live-fire exercises. Officials said the training is structured to provide valuable hands-on experience in a controlled setting before recruits begin responding to real emergencies in the community.
Regional partnership continues to strengthen firefighter training
Fargo Fire Chief Gary Lorenz said the academy continues to demonstrate the benefits of cooperation among the three neighboring departments.
“We’re proud to welcome the 15th class of recruits to the Metro Fire Academy,” Lorenz said. “Our partnership with Moorhead and West Fargo continues to highlight the value of regional collaboration. Training together under one program ensures every recruit meets the same high standards, and that our communities receive consistent, professional service.”
The Metro Fire Academy was established in the spring of 2020 as a joint training initiative serving the fire departments in Fargo, Moorhead, and West Fargo. Since its creation, the academy has graduated 100 firefighters, helping to strengthen cooperation among the three agencies while ensuring recruits receive consistent instruction and professional development.
Officials believe the shared training model allows firefighters from different departments to build working relationships early in their careers, improving coordination during future emergency responses that may involve multiple agencies.
