Cass County Sheriff’s Office opens applications for free Citizens Academy beginning this September
Fargo, North Dakota – The Cass County Sheriff’s Office is inviting local residents and people who work in the county to apply for its upcoming Citizens Academy, a free educational program designed to provide participants with a closer look at modern law enforcement operations.
Beginning this fall, the academy will offer a combination of classroom instruction and hands-on training, giving attendees an opportunity to better understand the many responsibilities handled by deputies and sheriff’s office staff. Officials said the program is intended to strengthen relationships between law enforcement and the community while providing greater insight into how the agency serves Cass County.
Weekly sessions begin in September
The academy will run for 12 weeks, with classes taking place every Tuesday beginning Sept. 15. Each session is scheduled from 6:30 p.m. to 10 p.m., allowing participants to attend after typical work hours.
Throughout the course, attendees will receive presentations on a variety of law enforcement topics while also taking part in practical training exercises designed to provide a firsthand look at the work performed by the sheriff’s office.
According to the agency, the Citizens Academy was created to help residents gain a better understanding of the functions and responsibilities of the Cass County Sheriff’s Office while also building stronger connections between deputies and the people they serve.
Participation is free, but applicants must meet several eligibility requirements.
Those interested must either live in Cass County or currently work within the county. Applicants must also be 18 years of age or older.
Before being accepted into the academy, all applicants will undergo a background check. The sheriff’s office said applications will be reviewed in the order they are received and approved. Once the review process is complete, applicants will be notified whether they have been accepted into the program.
Officials encourage eligible residents and employees who are interested in learning more about local law enforcement to submit an application. By combining education, practical experiences, and direct interaction with deputies, the Citizens Academy aims to increase public understanding while fostering trust and cooperation between the Cass County Sheriff’s Office and the community it serves.
