City of Fargo announces multiple road closures, lane reductions, and traffic changes beginning Monday, August 10

Fargo, North Dakota – Fargo drivers should prepare for several traffic changes beginning Monday, August 10, as road construction, pavement marking work, and private underground utility projects affect multiple streets across the city.

One of the projects will take place along Veterans Boulevard, where a contractor will begin restriping pavement markings inside several roundabouts between 40th Avenue South and 52nd Avenue South. The work will generally take place between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m., with only one roundabout scheduled to close at a time.

Crews will move from north to south, beginning with the roundabout at 44th Avenue South on Monday. The roadway will reopen after the new pavement markings have dried, which officials say will happen no later than 4 p.m.

The contractor is then expected to move south and restripe the roundabout at 48th Avenue South on Tuesday before completing work at the 51st Avenue South roundabout.

The schedule is weather dependent, meaning individual closures could be pushed back by a day. Traffic control measures will be used to direct motorists around whichever roundabout is closed.

Utility work brings additional lane reductions

Two separate underground utility projects will also begin Monday.

Northbound 45th Street South will be reduced to two lanes between 26th Avenue South and Amber Valley Parkway. That restriction is needed for private underground utility work and could remain in place for up to 10 days.

Another utility project will affect northbound University Drive South between 16th Avenue South and 14th Avenue South. Traffic there will be reduced to one lane for up to one week.

A more significant traffic change is also coming as work continues on the 32nd Avenue South Reconstruction Project.

Contractors are scheduled to reopen the intersection of 15th Street South and 32nd Avenue South on Monday. At the same time, the intersection of University Drive South and 32nd Avenue South will close as crews continue Phase 2 of Segment 3. That intersection is expected to remain closed for approximately one month.

The University Drive South and 32nd Avenue South intersection will be completely closed to traffic. Drivers traveling north or south on University Drive will be redirected west to 15th Street South to get around the construction area.

Despite the closure, access to local businesses and properties will remain available. Pedestrian access will also be maintained on at least one side of the street throughout construction.

Meanwhile, 32nd Avenue South between 15th Street South and University Drive South remains closed as part of Phase 2. Farther east, the section of 32nd Avenue South between 11th Street South and the Red River is open following completion of Phase 1.

Pedestrians needing to cross University Drive South will have two designated options, at 35th Avenue South and 30th Avenue South.

Several detours will remain in place while the work continues. University Drive traffic will use 15th Street South, while eastbound 32nd Avenue South traffic will be redirected through 35th Avenue South. Westbound traffic on 32nd Avenue South will use 30th Avenue South.

With several projects beginning on the same day, Fargo motorists should allow additional travel time and watch for construction signs and traffic control measures around the affected areas.
