City of Fargo narrows garbage truck naming contest to ten finalists after receiving more than 200 entries

Fargo, North Dakota – Residents in Fargo are getting the chance to leave their mark on the city’s garbage trucks after a creative community contest generated hundreds of unique name ideas. City officials say the initiative was designed to engage the public in a fun way while highlighting the important work performed by the city’s Solid Waste Department.
The City of Fargo recently invited residents to submit their most imaginative names for the city’s garbage trucks. The response from the community was strong, with a total of 217 entries submitted during the contest.
After reviewing the submissions, Fargo’s Solid Waste Department worked together with Deputy Mayor Denise Kolpack, who serves as the department’s liaison to the City Commission, to narrow the list down to ten finalists. The selections were based on creativity, originality, and overall appeal.
City officials also noted that if a particular name was submitted multiple times by different participants, the first entry received was the one considered for the competition.
Community Invited to Choose the Winners
The final list of potential garbage truck names reflects both humor and imagination from Fargo residents. The finalists include:
• Trashasaurus Rex
• Hector the Collector
• Recyclopse
• Landfill Lucy
• Fargo’s Trash Bandit
• Trashinator
• Optimus Grime
• Truck Norris
• Garbage Gulper
• Bin Diesel
Residents are now being invited to take part in the final step of the contest by voting for their favorite names online.
Voting is currently open and will remain available until Sunday, March 15 at 11:59 p.m. Community members can cast their votes through the city’s website.
Once voting closes, the three names receiving the most votes will be chosen as the official winners. Those names will then be proudly displayed on Fargo’s garbage trucks.
In addition to seeing their ideas placed on city vehicles, individuals who originally submitted the winning names will receive Fargo-themed gear. The winners will also have the opportunity to appear in a video that will be shared on the city’s social media channels.
City officials say the contest has been a fun way to connect with residents while celebrating the daily work of the Solid Waste Department, whose crews help keep Fargo clean and running smoothly.
