Fargo announces winter parking restrictions starting November 1 with important changes to overnight parking enforcement

Fargo, North Dakota – The City of Fargo is reminding residents that seasonal parking restrictions will take effect on Sunday, November 1, 2026, as officials prepare for winter weather and the challenges of keeping streets clear of snow.

The restrictions will remain in place through April 15, 2027, affecting designated streets throughout several parts of the city.

According to city officials, the rules are intended to help public works crews remove snow more efficiently, carry out necessary street maintenance and ensure emergency responders have enough space to reach residents when assistance is needed.

Under the seasonal regulations, motorists will be permitted to park on only one side of certain streets, depending on the posted signs.

The restrictions apply to designated roadways between 12th Avenue North and Interstate 94, extending from the Red River to 25th Street North and South. The affected area also includes the Madison Neighborhood.

Fargo reminds drivers of changes to overnight parking enforcement

City officials are also reminding residents about an important change to seasonal overnight parking rules that took effect in November 2025.

Under the updated ordinance, restrictions specifically targeting parking between 1 a.m. and 7 a.m. are no longer enforced within the area stretching from 19th Avenue North to 13th Avenue South and from the Red River to 25th Street.

Signs previously used to indicate those overnight restrictions have been removed.

However, the city emphasized that this change does not affect the year-round parking regulations enforced in Downtown Fargo.

The adjustment followed a review by city staff, who determined that limiting parking to one side of designated streets was enough to support winter snow removal and public safety operations without maintaining the additional overnight restrictions.

Despite the change, motorists must continue following all posted parking signs throughout the city.

Vehicles violating restrictions could be ticketed or impounded

Fargo officials warned that seasonal parking rules will be actively enforced, particularly when snowfall creates additional challenges for street maintenance crews.

Vehicles parked in violation of the restrictions may receive citations or be impounded by the Fargo Police Department or the Public Works Department.

Residents are encouraged to check street signs before leaving their vehicles parked, especially during winter storms.

The city is asking motorists to cooperate with the seasonal rules to help keep roadways accessible for snow removal equipment, maintenance workers, and emergency vehicles throughout the winter months.

The restrictions will continue until April 15, 2027, unless otherwise announced by city officials.
