Fargo man sentenced to 10 years in prison for manslaughter following deadly skateboard assault in downtown Fargo

Fargo, North Dakota – A 20-year-old man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison in connection with a violent assault in downtown Fargo that led to a manslaughter case and an extensive investigation involving several law enforcement agencies.
The Fargo Police Department announced that Tabias Walker received his sentence on October 12, 2026, more than a year after the August 3, 2025, incident.
Under the sentence, Walker will serve nine years in prison, followed by three years of supervised probation.
The case involved a victim who suffered severe head injuries after being struck with a skateboard in the downtown area. Investigators spent considerable time reviewing surveillance footage, gathering physical evidence and following tips from the public before identifying and arresting Walker.
Police said the investigation was particularly challenging because the assault occurred during a night when officers were also dealing with two separate homicides involving firearms.
Three serious incidents occurred in Fargo on the same night
According to the Fargo Police Department, August 3, 2025, was an especially difficult night for the city.
Within a relatively short period, authorities were called to investigate three serious incidents, including two gun violence homicides and the assault in downtown Fargo.
The incidents raised concerns about public safety while placing considerable demands on local emergency responders and investigators.
At approximately 3:07 a.m., Fargo first responders and Cass County Sheriff’s deputies discovered a seriously injured assault victim in the 300 block of Broadway.
The individual had suffered severe injuries to the head and was transported to a local hospital for medical treatment.
However, Fargo Police officers were unable to respond to the original call because all available units were occupied with other critical incidents happening around the same time.
The following day, the victim’s family contacted the Fargo Police Department and informed officials about the assault and the seriousness of the injuries.
After receiving that information, Fargo Police investigators began examining the circumstances surrounding the attack.
What followed was a detailed investigation that required officers to reconstruct the events leading up to the assault and determine who was responsible.
Surveillance footage and anonymous tip help identify suspects
During the days after the incident, Fargo Police officers, detectives and members of the department’s Intelligence & Analysis Unit worked together to collect evidence and establish a timeline.
Investigators reviewed extensive surveillance footage from cameras throughout downtown Fargo.
By examining the recordings and comparing the movements of people captured on video, detectives identified two individuals they believed could have information about the attack.
The investigation indicated that one of those individuals had struck the victim in the head with a skateboard.
Police also asked the public for assistance in identifying those involved.
That request produced several leads, including an anonymous report submitted through Tip411, a system that allows community members to share information with law enforcement.
According to police, the anonymous submission helped investigators identify the suspects and move the case forward.
The investigation continued with assistance from the Metro Street Crimes Unit, Moorhead Police Department and other law enforcement partners.
Officers conducted surveillance, interviewed individuals and obtained multiple search warrants as they worked to gather additional evidence.
During those efforts, investigators recovered clothing, footwear and the skateboard identified as the weapon used in the assault.
These items became important pieces of evidence in the case.
As the investigation progressed, detectives identified Walker as the primary suspect.
Authorities eventually located him at his workplace in Moorhead, Minnesota.
Officers arrested Walker without incident, bringing an end to the search for the main suspect in the assault.
Investigation leads to manslaughter conviction and prison sentence
Following Walker’s arrest, investigators continued working with the Cass County State’s Attorney’s Office to prepare the case for prosecution.
The evidence gathered during the investigation ultimately supported formal manslaughter charges against Walker.
The case later resulted in a conviction, and Walker appeared for sentencing on October 12, 2026.
He was sentenced to 10 years in prison, with nine years to serve and three years of supervised probation afterward.
The Fargo Police Department credited the outcome to the combined efforts of its patrol officers, detectives, intelligence personnel and regional law enforcement partners.
Officials emphasized that the case required investigators to remain focused despite the unusual number of serious incidents that occurred during the same night.
The department also highlighted the importance of community cooperation, particularly the information provided by residents who responded to requests for assistance.
The anonymous Tip411 submission was among the leads that helped investigators identify the individuals connected to the assault.
Police said the case demonstrated how surveillance footage, physical evidence, interviews and cooperation between agencies can help resolve difficult investigations.
The department also acknowledged the work of the Cass County State’s Attorney’s Office in moving the case through the legal process.
While the sentencing brings the criminal case to a resolution, Fargo Police recognized the lasting impact of the incident on the victim’s loved ones.
Officials extended their sympathies to the victim’s family and friends as they continue dealing with the loss.
The department described the investigation as an example of the dedication required from law enforcement personnel when several serious emergencies occur at once, emphasizing that the coordinated work of investigators and community members played an important role in bringing the case to its conclusion.
