In light of recent events, it is crucial to address the impact that the coronavirus pandemic has had on the health of our communities, particularly regarding vaccinations. While many families followed the public health warnings and stayed home during the peak of the pandemic, a report by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) released in May 2020 found that it also resulted in a significant number of missed recommended vaccinations.
As healthcare providers, the CDC recommends families to stay vigilant and check to ensure that their children are up-to-date on their visits and recommended vaccines. It is for this reason that Grand Forks Public Health has taken the initiative to offer walk-in pediatric immunization appointments all week, starting from tomorrow, April 25 to April 28, as part of National Infant Immunization Week.
The significance of vaccines cannot be overstated, as they play a vital role in protecting children, communities and the nation’s public health from serious childhood diseases. The pediatric immunization program at Grand Forks Public Health is committed to ensuring that children two years and younger are protected from long-term, vaccine-preventable diseases.
The clinic, located at 151 S. 4th St., Suite N301, on the third floor of the Grand Forks County Office Building, will be open on Tuesday, April 25, and Thursday, April 27, from 1 to 4 p.m., and on Friday, April 28, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. To receive the vaccines, all one needs to bring is insurance and immunization records.
Pediatric immunization program manager Rachel Flores emphasized the importance of getting vaccinated, stating that while the pokes may not be the most pleasant experience, they offer a lifetime of protection. It is through initiatives like this that we can work towards building a healthier and safer community, and ultimately a better future for our children.
